Employer’s guide to purchasing an exam resit voucher from CII

This article guides you on how to purchase an exam resit voucher for an apprentice, and how the apprentice can then book their resit. Please note this is for resits only as first exam attempts are included in the initial unit enrolment completed by Skills Edge.

 

For apprenticeship learners only, the employer should purchase the exam voucher for exam resits - the learner must not pay personally as this would breach apprenticeship funding rules. The learner is responsible for booking the exam themselves through their own CII account.

Step 1 — Employer purchases the exam voucher

The employer should:

  1. Log into the learner’s CII training pathway or contact Skills Edge if support is needed.
  2. Purchase the relevant:
    • Assessment Only option, or
    • Exam Voucher for the unit resit.
  3. Ensure the voucher is applied to the learner’s CII account before the booking is made.

The employer can pay for the voucher:

  • through their CII corporate account,
  • online using a debit or credit card,
  • or by contacting CII Customer Services directly to make payment over the phone.

If there are any issues purchasing the voucher, the employer should contact CII Customer Services for support.

Apprenticeship learners must not personally fund:

  • exam vouchers,
  • resit fees,
  • course costs,
  • or associated assessment charges.

Step 2 — Learner books the resit

Once the voucher has been purchased and applied:

  1. The learner logs into their own CII account.
  2. Go to:
    • My CII
    • then Book an exam.
  3. Select the qualification unit requiring the resit.
  4. Choose either:
    • a Pearson VUE test centre, or
    • remote invigilation.
  5. Select an available date and time.
  6. Apply the voucher if prompted.
  7. Confirm the booking and retain the confirmation email.

Important reminders

  • Multiple-choice exams usually cannot be booked less than two working days in advance.
  • The learner must still be within their active enrolment period.
  • Availability changes regularly, so learners should keep checking if no slots appear.
